Neural codes likely lie in low dimensional manifolds, such that collapses in complexity by neural networks tuned to represent particular features produce information on backgrounds of complex dynamics present in conscious, but not unconscious states.

How much do we remain vigilant during sleep? How is the brain being "washed" during sleep? Why is sleep so important in infancy? A nice collection of articles on these long-standing questions can be found in , to be published in June 2020!

The “brain is [not] a passive information processing machine. Instead, the hypothesis suggests that contents of consciousness are the results of active reconstruction of the reality.”

Brains are amazing. Our lab demonstrates that single human layer 2/3 neurons can compute the XOR operation. Never seen before in any neuron in any other species. Out now in . Congrats Albert, Tim  & CO

How do we force a transition from one brain state to another by external driven stimulation in, for example, wakefulness, sleep, coma or neuropsychiatric diseases? Our latest work with ... is now out in 👊🎉

Three computational neuroscientists go hunting. They spot a bear. All three argue about the right level of analysis to describe the bear. All are eaten by the bear.

Holy crap, this is incredible: A dog playing Jenga. Turn-taking, fine motor control, apparent understanding of the aim of the game. I would not have guessed a dog could do this.

It's not an individual sport. But we do indeed compete against diseases/disorders, human suffering, and a not so distant history when access to education and the opportunity to pursue one's dreams was not universally distributed. 🙏🏾

We asked scientists to peer-review a paper on Elon Musk's brain-computer interface. They called the concept "impressive," but had lots of caveats: “I look at the Neuralink paper and think, that’s not what I want my data to be.” via

We discovered dynamical differences between neural activity in sleep and anesthesia that can help explain why memory is reinforced by sleep but disrupted by anesthesia. Great collaboration 🧠
