The following pdf was used as a reference in this lab. BioRad offers kits. But all you really need are the algae beads (around 6 per set up), a bicarbonate indicator and a plant light to activate the beads.

We did a super neat lab with algae beads today. The pH indicator changes color based on the carbon dioxide present in solution. When photosynthesis is taking place, the solution turns a nice purple color due to decreased carbon dioxide concentrations!

It feels surreal that I've come full circle. Once a GT student, now an educator attending PDs for teaching the gifted.

We cannot afford to waste female brilliance any longer. For our society to grow and thrive, parents and teachers must support and encourage gifted girls in reaching their true potential.

Very true. When I was a young, GT individual my mental health was largely kept together due to the community of learning my teachers established. It helped me make like-minded friends.

Things that are not required to be a scientist: -Having a PhD -Publishing peer-reviewed papers -Getting paid to do research Things that do make you a scientist: -Using the scientific method to study stuff That's it, that's the whole list.

Diversity is a necessary part of science. I am glad education researchers are looking into ways to promote women's participation in science.

While grades are necessary, we need to look past them. Personalized, effective feedback is always the way to go. A student can't easily use a number to improve or track their progress.
