The Arizona Republic did endorse Goldwater in 1964. Everything else aside, it would have been bad for business not to. Jonathan Marshall, liberal publisher of the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Daily Progress, endorsed LBJ and lost so many local advertisers that the paper almost folded.

50 yrs ago this week, on March 31, 1968, President Johnson stunned the world by announcing he would not seek re-election. Watch newly released footage of LBJ rehearsing March 31st speech. (He left out the announcement in order to keep it a secret.) 📽️

I am endlessly amused by the reviews of Sean Penn's disaster of a book, but again I ask, couldn't that column space been devoted to a new debut novelist (that we hadn't heard of before) or midlist author on the rise with actual writing chops?
