In theory, I understand the idea that leaving #1 and coming back unranked does seem odd. But this is another issue entirely. They idea that you should be given a pass after an lengthy absence is different. #SerenaWilliams

Are we making this exception because it was a mat leave, a very natural event for all women? I don't think that anyone is denying the amazing moment that a child birth is but trying to understand where she was wronged. Up for detailed explanation #SerenaWilliams

I'm all for rights being honored and adjustments in rules to accommodate players, but I'm going to also wonder if I'll be given the same consideration as a top player, when I go on a paternity leave to help my lovely wife after the birth of our 1st born @JRBlake. #SerenaWilliams

I would vote for paternity leave and a frozen ranking for that as well.

Got it. This could get sticky depending on nationality. We're allowed 18months in . Serena could have have taken much longer as she could easily afford it. Will length of time off play a factor? Have you written a piece yet outlining all your args? Would love to read it
