those people with bias are now emboldened and seem more likely to act on those biases. That makes me and many like me scared

Believe is probably a better word. I believe what the Bible says and have to choose to act on it. The results are not up to me.
same penalty to those who trim their beard or get tattoos? Both banned in the Bible. Or just cherry pick which to take literally?

Not exactly - there is at least one specific Scripture that mentions several lifestyles that won't go to Heaven. I Cor 6:10
