I get the impression he knows an early retirement is only round the corner despite his best efforts at getting back to full fitness. Will be gutted for him. Loved watching him play and a proper character who will be missed should it come to pass.

Yeah I got that impression too, I think the emotion was because he knows that it still doesn’t feel I good, he can beat most players outside the top 50 at 70% but when it comes to challenging again for majors you need to be at peak performance. 1/2
