I think they agreed to change it after Kevin spoke extensively about it and his final chances

As enjoyable and exciting as it was to watch those marathon 5th sets, at a certain point it became physically, viscerally painful - for the viewer!!! Can’t imagine what it felt like for all of you!!

I remember John also had no legs for following match. He was spent. Good rule prevents possible injury to tired players. John had another long match this year with Kevin Anderson.
