I will admit I have said worse and not gotten penalized. And I’ve also been given a “soft warning” by the ump where they tell you knock it off or I will have to give you a violation. He should have at least given her that courtesy. Sad to mar a well played final that way.https://twitter.com/ramonashelburne/status/1038554172637892608 …

Would be nice if some of Serena’s male counterparts had her back and admitted they’ve said a lot worse to the umpire. I know I’ve heard A LOT worse from NBA players directed at refs.

Serious question: Have any of the male players threatened a line judge and then sat in their chair and screamed at the chair umpire? I’m asking because those are two incidents that I don’t think I’ve seen from top men’s players

Every player is different and what makes Serena great is her fire on the court. Having said that, she is the greatest women’s player this world has ever seen. I’ve never seen Rafa or Roger react that way and I think she should have held her temper in the situation. I haven’t been

You need to watch more tennis. Roger has cursed the chair with no fine or repercussions. There have been a host of others just the past two weeks.

Yes, an John McEnroe was disqualified in 1990 Aussie Open. Bad umpiring also? Perhaps they should also ask what other umpires think instead of just what current of former players think.

Appreciate it, I don’t have any issue with Ramos doing his job. Could he have not given a game, absolutely. But I think he was within his right. I think that if every coach is cheating as Patrick says then something should be done about that.

He didn’t do his job that is why it escalated to the point that it did. If he would have done his job he wouldn’t have had to take a game. People who watch tennis and are players now the umpire dropped the ball big time. He just didn’t do his job correctly.

I remember watching Djokovic play Andy Murray at Wimbledon, and at one point he approached and started yelling at the umpire. He was furious. Nobody blinked an eyelid and the umpire just ignored him.

In any case under the code system he had every right. The crux of this was her lack of control over losing. It was not what you expect from a role model.

James, love you as a player. Question: Don't you take into account the demeanour and reputation of the ref? Ramos is known for being "strict" as shown in the coaching violation. I mean Serena knows this guy (for SURE!).
