So if they keep insisting on a perpetual Backstop to avoid a "hard border" then a hard border is what they will get. That only makes sense if the Backstop is what we all know it is - a tool to stop Brexit altogether

As I understand it the GFA is a bilateral international Treaty. EU membership is also an International Treaty. In which case which International Treaty trumps the other esp as in EU law SM integrity is the responsibility of the member state. A case I suspect for the lawyers.
