That was in 1993, when renewables stood at, well, 4%.

Germany has ended its dependence on Russian energy. Since August 11th, no coal has been imported. Natural gas imports have been reduced from 55% at the beginning of 2022 to zero. Oil imports dropped from 40% to under 20%, and will be phased out by the end of this year.

Demand reductions and renewable energy growth prevented an increase in power generation from fossil fuels. Germany's Energiewende worked for the moment, offsetting nuclear closures with wind&solar (while ofc gas&coal would've fallen a lot more if fossil power was closed instead).

As I keep saying, the confused narrative about Europe returning to fossil fuels or backsliding on climate makes no sense looking at the data. We've cut demand overall, but the huge reduction in supply from Russia has meant that we've still increased supply from other sources.

This is also very significant news which broke today, during Elon's Twitter Space. He previously said failure of FSD would completely annihilate the company. He admitted today he's had to "intervene" multiple times – in his own car, alone. It's still vaporware.
