This will affect videos that both creators & our systems identify as made for kids (ex: emphasis on kids characters, themes, or toys). More specific examples: https://yt.be/help/pE5Q Creators will self designate bc you know your content & its target audience better than anyone.

It includes all content on YouTube (including video games). The key here is that we’re limiting data collection on all videos made for kids – it’s more about the individual video content and its target audience, and less about the game the creator is playing in the video.

Machine learning technology will help identify made for kids content, as defined by the FTC (see D1 of their FAQs for more: https://ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-coppa-frequently-asked-questions …). Since creators know their videos & target audience best, they’ll also be required to self designate videos as made for kids.

Also, I recognize the concerted effort to shift the responsibility for COPPA compliance to the creators, rather than take responsibility for the missteps of your sales teams that prompted the FTC fines with the ‘you know your audience, better comply’. There must be a better way.
