is closest its ever been to midnight People asked me "can that really be true?". I'm a Cambridge Uni existential risk researcher and my view is: unfortunately yes TL:DR nuclear situation worse than last 30 yrs, climate situation worse ever, and new bio + AI risks

This was one of the most depressing and yet motivating data I've seen on this topic of who we spend our time with and it's finiteness..

All my RTs today: trying to amplify the growing opposition to a terrible idea of a show - one that promotes misinformation and spreads harmful myths about health.

For the harm that can come from 's pseudoscience, check out & . I'm here to tell you about the harm that comes from her pseudoRELIGION: Like indulgence peddlers, she's in the business of making spiritual purity a function of class. *thread*

Unfortunate that is jumping on the bandwagon of exploiting the gaps in women's health care. This won't improve anything but 's bottom line.

Hi - your content is a highlight of my day but as a doctor who has to fight misinformation including caring for people who follow instead of doctors and wind up sick, I’d be grateful if you could create content with good science and less woo.

If I still had any shares I'd be selling them here. you built a legitimate $150B company, revolutioized a dinosaur sector and now are going to burn your reputation shilling snake oil? Why? How is this helping anyone?

Just saying that could have given me a show that was much more scientific for MUCH cheaper.

Hypersonics will render all missile defense systems useless and dramatically shorten the window for second-strike capabilities. A hugely underrated issue.

I understand. But we must be stoic Poppers and let bad ideas ... die. Emotional investment is a nasty bias that drives and crashes lots of animal cognition research (a field with huge replication and interpretation problems). See here, too:

Please stop with stupid hot takes like this. Your own article says *all* data centers are responsible for something like 0.3% of global emissions. 🙄 Please stop hyping the non-issues for click-bait, and let’s get to work on the real climate solutions.

I have a theory that these terrible (and often wrong) hot takes are actually designed to get people to stop caring about combatting climate change altogether. I promise climate scientists don’t actually care that you just binged The Expanse. Half of us did, too.

When I worked at Lumosity we had a test like this, and it would compare you against this chimp’s scores. Many people were able to beat the chimp after practicing.

I watched it then - with increasing fascination. The whole story was built on the false promise that humans are worse at task and cannot recover. This particular mind virus is so strong that even a good science show (it is!) bowed to it in the end by not acknowledging their data.

This debunked finding keeps coming back. Humans are at least as good at this task as the chimpanzees. It's a practice effect. See replies in the thread. Good television makes for bad theorizing.

Wrong. Humans can do the same, when trained.

The same, clear result (i.e. an actual absence of a difference between chimpanzees and humans) has also been found under controlled settings (whrn both groups (!) are trained). See: and

the app exists. its called "schlag den affen" (from a tv show "quarks"). countless users (after some training) confirm: humans not worse than apes in the task. perhaps even better.
