This sort of thing will get so, so much worse if he is re-elected.

The President’s son/adviser called a United State Senator, former Republican nominee for POTUS, Chair of US Olympic Commitee, and Governor of Massachusetts a “pussy”. But you complain about Speaker Pelosi’s decorum?!?

This is a terrifying abuse-of-power. No plausible benefit, using the federal government to make life worse for residents of a Democratic state in order to score political points with his base. What is next?!?

This is what dictators do. Petty and personalized response to a particular incident; the public is harmed, for no decent policy reason. Like giving the Medal of Preedom to Rush or pardoning Arpaio, Trump does it because he (thinks he) can.

Wow... Romney is spineless and unfit to lead?!? You have to have a lot of practice to be this good at projection.

What a proud moment for the GOP. Trump gloats at their subservience & laughs as he prepares to abuse his office - and their loyalty - yet again. This isn't a joke. He cannot be constrained, is not chastened, will not learn. He wants to be a dictator, and he won't stop trying.

GOP: He didn't do it. Trump: I did it. GOP: He didn't mean to do it. Trump: I wish I'd done it sooner. GOP: He did it for benign reasons. Trump: I did it for the worst reasons. GOP: He's sorry. Trump: I'm never sorry. GOP: He's chastened. Trump: I'm doing it again tomorrow.

As the president's impeachment trial began, Republican senators pledged an oath to defend the Constitution. Today, 52 of them voted to betray that oath—and all of us. We’re entering dangerous territory for our democracy. It’ll take all of us working together to restore it.

The punchline of this “joke” about staying in office indefinitely is that he literally just abused his power and tried to extort a foreign regime in order to manipulate the 2020 election so he could stay in office.

It's crazy to think that if 20 people decided to make it happen, Pence could be president by sundown.

So there’s no room for conscience and impartial justice in the Republican caucus. Got it.

Mitt Romney shames every Republican in the United States Senate. He exposes how they are refusing to defend our republic.

You know what Mitt just said on the Senate floor? It’s what his Republican colleagues say at night when the cameras are turned off. I’m looking at you, Lindsey.

That speech was a pure example of the integrity, sincerity, and honesty which we deserve from our elected leaders. God Bless him for taking his oath seriously and standing athwart a cover up, despite the futility of it.

Romney’s courageous act does something very important: it lays bare the toadyism and craven political calculations from the other GOP Senators. They all know he’s right. They just are too weak, too self-interested, too cowardly to admit it.

As has been pointed out, Romney now becomes the first senator in American history to vote to remove a president of his own party in a Senate impeachment trial.
