This is egregious and must be struck down: a private court bringing a case against a human rights lawyer because he was successful in holding

to account for their crimes in Ecuador. And it's also part of a pattern of excessive sentences for people fighting ecocide.

a decade ago, attorney @SDonziger sued Chevron and won. the oil giant has been attacking him in court ever since. he has been on house arrest for two years. and today, he was sentenced to SIX MONTHS in prison, despite calls from the UN to release him. gizmodo.com/un-finds-steve

This is all part of a pattern of the hard criminalization of environmental lawyers and activists. At the worst end, many are hurt and even murdered for their advocacy. Follow
