The thing that really gets me about the #CollegeCheatingScandal isn’t that I’m surprised. It’s that students of color work three times as hard as these rich white kids, accomplish three times as much, and are STILL told we don’t belong or are there only because we’re “ethnic.”

I can’t even count the number of times professors, donors, administrators, board members, or students have told me I’m only in the programs/scholarships/fellowships I’m in because I’m “Latin.” #CollegeCheatingScandal

People say I’m in programs because I’m “Latin” but don’t also say I graduated summa cum laude, got into Harvard AND Yale with full rides and turned THEM down, have multiple publications and have spoken across the country. But affirmative action... 😒 #CollegeCheatingScandal

The SAT—the exam parents in this #CollegeCheatingScandal paid *thousands* to rig—was created by #eugenicists. Understanding this history reveals how college admissions have historically privileged wealthy white folk. [thread] #CollegeScam #twitterstorians

I feel this WHOLE thread on a personal level. Had a HS "friend" reach out to me so for her journalism project to ask about my experience as someone who got into Yale due to affirmative action. Spent a lot of my college years with an inferiority complex.

That’s been on my mind since yesterday. It’s ridiculous.

This reminds me of when I was an undergraduate taking an English Lit course. I help one of my peers (an Anglo woman) with the analysis of a short story she selected, and help her write her paper. When we got our papers back, she got an A, I got a B.

When I asked the professor why I got a B on my paper, she said, “what is the complaint, a B is good.”

What irks me, is how these "affirmative action is bad" arguments are used to cut education funding at all levels

The schools had to be in on it. They set up a system that enabled scams. For some reason, the schools wanted those kids. They never checked up on "recruited" athletes? They didn't notice "learning disabled" kids getting high SATS?
