Way too exciting! Out and meeting people for real at a very special place Cymru - the place that managed to repurpose their factory to supply the UK with ventilators when COVID first hit

Thanks for a really engaging discussion all...and now for me ' time for bed said zebedee' (at nearly 4am :-))

Actually, I like the idea that all new housing developments have to have PV built in, alongside a mechanism which enables them to P2P trade with their neighbours (with the option of extending the P2P out more widely)

In response to - other countries have already been doing this. I remember hearing years ago that all new properties built in Germany had to have solar built in.

A5: as I said, you need cool agile brands to provide the P2P trading platform...a decade or so ago, it would have been Branson doing Virgin Energy

I think you need the new cool brands to create these P2P offerings. It's often hard for existing energy retailers to get trust after all the bad press they get.

Agree with Philip - you've got to make it really easy, and it has to have something to appeal to make you want to engage. People only got into solar because they were sold the payback period.

A3: for those who are comfortably off, and can pay for their energy, why try something new? Where's the incentive?

A2: in the current climate, electric cars continue to be the big seller in Norway.

Oslo (I love the norwegians) - check out how they got everyone to switch to electric cars by making it the easiest & cheapest way to get to work (if you have to drive) in Oslo.

I think we have the usual situation in the west where the established energy utilities and regulation add a bit of treacle to the process of moving to renewable

Oh, and I also think that its quite cool to use solar to pump water back up for re-use in hydro generation.

In places where they are not allowed to own land or livestock, this can be a source of income and independance. Also check out 'solar sisters'

In Africa, women, as the home makers, are being empowered to bring solar to their villages. for example, rental access to solar panels with the facility to sell on power to their neighbours

I love what's going on in off-grid africa. There are so many initiatives to bring solar power to those who have had to rely on kerosine & wood for heat and light. And empowering women at the same time. google 'solar africa women'

Final Thoughts: Getting diversity (not just women) into STEM is about providing early exposure to the fun of numbers and experimentation. If you wait for people to get to teenage years to encourage them, it may be too late.

A5: do it! It's fun, it's problem solving, it's constant opportuities to learn. But the key thing is to catch kids young and instill a love of STEM in them before they get fed any crazy misconceptions about it being hard and boring.

Q4 Isn't it important to always challenge oneself by working with those who have a different perspective to you? So like-minded in willingness to learn and collaborate, but I welcome having my viewpoints challenged. THats how I learn.

a3 - huge! data scientists need to work closely with the business to understand what can be improved and how, and with IT to operationalise analytics by embedding them in business processes
