Important but little know fallacy. You’ll see it when people say that pools and cars. are more dangerous to kids that Covid. That’s true. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to stop kids from getting Covid.pic.twitter.com/p8QT9Shvb9

Has been trotted out a lot in this pandemic… particularly by those who also don’t care about the comparator they are using.

And the risks of those things happening are quite low overall but the consequences are high which is why we educate families on swimming safety, vehicle safety, etc. We don't just throw our hands up and say "oh well."

Or pass car seat laws, or build fences around pools, etc. there’s always other problems. They’re not an excuse to ignore one another.

It's an evil twin of the problem that is always either too big, or too small.

How many American children lose their parents on car crashes each year? It's not just about kids dying of Covid. It's about kids becoming orphans, losing grandparents, #LongCovid and allowing the virus to create new variants = perpetual pandemic.

I mean, if I saw some kids running towards a busy road or a deep pool, I'd probably try and stop them from dying.

Plus cars and pools have benefits for children, that make the risks worth it. A COVID-19 infection doesn’t really have any benefits, expect immunity, but you can get that benefit for free with a vaccine.

In 2019-20, the US set a record for pediatric flu deaths - 188. In the decade before the measles vaccine became available, there were 3 million cases a year, almost all in those <15 yo. On average, 400 - 500 died. COVID is worse than both - in kids.

By what measure? How many children under 18 have died of covid in the US?
