Did someone (in NYC?) just figure out the Speaker's Lobby has a dress code? It's been exactly the same for 10+ years I've worked there.

I've worked on hill on and off for 10 yrs and have often heard talk this was rule but never been stopped myself
-
I was told about the rules by gallery staff early when I started on the hill (about 7 years ago) and its been intermittently enforced.
-
literally no one ever told me the rules. I knew dudes had to wear coat and tie... guess I never hung out in house gallery enough!

and I had NEVER heard that open toed shoes were not allowed

-
don't get me wrong, I've complained about the rules. I generally think training for newly credentialed folks would solve a LOT of problems.

now trying to figure out what it says about the House that you can use recording devices in Spkr's lobby but not let a lawmaker see yr toes

I think the story nicely noted the arbitraryness of rule - where are the signs or advance notices this is a rule?
