Just because someone knows Japanese, doesn't mean they can translate/interpret.
Reading, speaking, writing, translating and interpreting are 5 different skill sets that each take a LOT of work to get good at.

Reasons why a translation might turn out kinda shit despite your best efforts:
-The LSP didn't provide any context
-The deadline is in 24 hours
-The JP you're working with is translated from CH
-There is leftover CH text
-It's split up awkwardly across memoQ cells

I just started reading Babel, or the Necessity of Violence by R. F. Kuang and I have to say I'm impressed with her use of British English quotation marks, hyphens and even not using a . with "Mr/Mrs". Just a tiny detail that adds to the world of the novel.

I've seen mixed reviews for this novel and people seem to either love it or hate it.
So far the writing seems somewhat juvenile, it might be better suited for a YA audience, but it's a short book and I'm curious to see where it goes.

Idol, Burning by Rin Usami and translated into English by Asa Yoneda is a novella about obsession and mental health. The teenage narrator and online slang made this translation a challenge that I think Yoneda handles fantastically.

It's vile and exploitative.
I've been offered MTPE work from industry-leading pubs w/ massive marketing budgets on some of the most recognizable IP in the world.
I tell them to shove it. Every time.
