    Years ago I was interviewing at a fine and storied boy’s boarding school. In the president’s office with the the venerable personage, I broke into a coughing fit (allergy). He got me a glass of water and started slapping me on the back. I didn’t get the job.

    Hey - what's your most intense professional cringe moment? Mine: I was a visiting speaker at Fancy U. Dinner plans had gotten as far as making a reservation and telling me, but apparently no farther. I ended up sitting by myself at a table for 8 for 2 hours.

    I see Copleston’s History of Philosophy series on ’s shelf. I remember how he worked through it with a fine toothed comb. He’s a man of God’s word, a scholar, and a servant—“a warrior for the working day...whose heart is in the trim.”
