Secret or rumor though? AFAIK, they use algorithms to select that content. I know I have definitely seen "trending" stuff that is low in views and seems curated for me (relates to other content I've watched).
As far as I’m aware it’s mostly curated, although your point about vids relevant to you personally also sounds feasible. I’m fairly sure it’s more secret than rumour but I’m happy to be proven wrong
That would be my guess - that most of it is chosen by algorithm, with a handful that youtube personally selects. More often than not, these companies have found that their algorithms are better at finding things that people want to watch. Netflix is another great example!
They are, but they can also be dangerous. There’s a couple of stories of people being radicalised by algorithms E.g. people watching Sargon out of curiosity being recommended Richard Spencer, suddenly they’re down the white supremacist rabbit hole.
