That math just doesn't add up.

That's because in South Texas, we have some of the highest poverty rates in the country but low rates of unemployment. The minimum wage in Texas is only $7.25 an hour. Most families work 2 or 3 jobs just to put food on the table — and sometimes that's still not enough.
A $15/hour livable wage would be a game changer for families in South Texas. So would creating good-paying jobs across Texas by investing in our infrastructure & in a just transition to renewable energy — and by opposing harmful trade agreements that outsource American jobs.
At the end of the day: we are the richest country in the world. It's completely unacceptable that last year, 14.3 million American households faced food insecurity. We must invest in our workforce and put hardworking Americans ahead of corporate billionaires.
Trump and his administration have a disturbing track record of punishing the most vulnerable members of our community. Any rational person knows the solution to our hunger crisis isn't to take nutritional assistance away from even more people who are struggling to get by.
We've seen it time and time again: cruelty is the point of this administration. It's shameful, and we can do better. After all: we are hardworking people down here in South Texas. All we ask for is a chance. /thread

You're right about one thing, $15 minimum wage would be a "game changer" in rural South Texas. It would kill thousands of jobs and lead to reduction in hours for thousands more. Socialists are really bad at economics!
