I assume that you meant *allow* women to vote. Nobody has ever been required to vote.

I think she’s right. States could and did allow women to vote before the 19th amendment. They just weren’t required by the federal Constitution to permit it.

@JCNSeverino Right! She’s crazy! Sen. Hirono is trying to make it personal, as if originalist rule soley based on their policy positions or preferences. Just not true! In fact, many originalist dislike how they rule, but rule the way they do bc their hands are tied by the law. -
Often, originalist rule contrary to what their personal preference or position is on a issue. Of course Mr. Van Dyke believes every American has the right to vote. That right is enshrined in the 19th amendment of the bill of right.
