If you're doing it for keyboard+ports, buy right now because PC OEMs have started rolling out USB-C and butterfly keyboards on new models as well.

I can stay with 2012 rMBP for keyboard & ports. I _would_ like to upgrade to >16GB and faster CPU, but it's not a must-have today. Due to cons of 2018 MBP ports/cost/14nm, I can wait for 10nm generation. Though as you point out, 2019 likely to be USB-C & docks/dongles.
-
I think 10nm is gonna be a longer wait than we think... latest MBP release is as good as its gonna get for the next 3-4 years
-
Agreed. SemiAccurate claims Intel has botched 10nm beyond possibility of repair and so they're trying to skip to 8nm now to catch back up before TSMC and GlobalFoundries pass them.
-
Intel no longer has a CPU monopoly, so if they can't get 10nm in 2019 they will lose their market to: 1) AMD Ryzen2 2) IBM POWER 3) ARM64 (Apple) 4) RISC-V AMD has a foot in the door with Ryzen. Apple has a foot out the door with the A9.
-
Qualcomm's working with Microsoft on the Snapdragon 850 as well; it's an ARM64 chip with a higher power envelope than their usual parts and it'll run full Windows 10 (no Windows Store only limitation) with x86 (not x64) emulation.

Mine history stopped after 2012 as well. New laptops are shit.
