There are numerous types of trauma. Domestic violence is considered chronic trauma, meaning multiple and varied traumatic events, while a car accident is regarded as acute trauma, or a single traumatic event that is limited in time.

The monetary cost of domestic violence in the United States each year exceeds 9.3 billion dollars in medical and mental health services, loss of productivity, and loss of paid earnings.
You don't have to be mandated to attend JBWS' Jersey Center for Non-Violence. Any person (regardless of gender identity) who is concerned about their behavior toward their loved ones is welcome to reach out to JCNV.

13.5 million people are stalked in the United States each year. 1 in 3 women, 1 in 6 men, and 1 in 17 undergraduate students report experiencing stalking. This number is higher for undergraduate students identifying as transgender, non-binary, and genderqueer (1 in 7).

Did you know there is a connection between stalking and intimate partner violence? In fact, 40% of stalking victims are stalked by a current or former intimate partner and 57% of intimate partner stalking victims are stalked during the relationship.

On this day in 1978, JBWS opened the doors to our shelter. Four families were admitted that night and, in just one month, the house was filled to capacity. In 2021, 125 adults and children spent a total of 4,913 days at Arbour House. Thank you for supporting JBWS' growth.

JBWS was granted $25,000 for our Dating Abuse Prevention Program (DAPP) from the Mimi Washington Starrett Foundation! DAPP educates youth and teens from 6th grade through college on healthy relationships, the warning signs of abuse, and where to seek help if needed.
