I didn't know Kirk Douglas - obviously. But I did go round Palm Springs Museum once, listening to his commentary on the audio guide. I particularly remember his comments on Kandinsky. 'Kandinsky', said Spartacus, 'took the subject matter out of art'. Happy days.

  5. Rejoice! It's the national day of the Sami! My kind of people! Various characters in the Frozen films were inspired by the Sami. And, therefore, Disney-fied. Also, here's a link to Svalbard today, which is close-ish! Who knew there was a Svalbard?!

We wouldn't want any unelected bureaucrats telling us what to do, would we? Now, I seem to have forgotten when we voted for Dominic Cummings..."Inside the mind of Dominic Cummings

  8. There are lots of unexpected presences in the annals of art but has anyone ever been quite as unexpected as Franz Xaver Messerschmidt (1736-1783), whose birthday is today? I mean look at him! His dates are rococo but his mind is from another planet! See

Achtung achtung. It's the birthday of Carl Spitzweg (1808-1885), the kooky German romantic. His big landcsapes are powerful enough - small man, big nature. But the genre pictures are really weird. Bottom right - Gnome Watching The Railway. Bottom left - The Butterfly Hunter.

A coyote and a badger use a culvert as a wildlife crossing to pass under a busy California highway together. Coyotes and badgers are known to hunt together. 🎥Peninsula Open Space Trust

Again to clarify you DO NEED TO SHOW YOUR BOARDING PASS AT DUTY FREE by law. You don't in other airport shops (& unless they are willing to give you some of the VAT they reclaim back, if you're travelling outside the UK, like Boots & Smiths do) I wouldn't show it.

This is all entirely fair. No love lost between Reading and Cardiff and I always look forward to them visiting in the hope we smash them and no doubt the feeling is mutual. Those 10 goals in 0506 were particularly sweet however... ...but wannabe Cockneys? On what basis?
