What's Old Sarum? It's effectively Old Salisbury, located slightly north of New Sarum, or Salisbury. You might know Salisbury as the closest city to Stonehenge, or the place I grew up, or something about poisoned Russians Also has a large market square and a very tall cathedral
I'm exceeding expectations as manager of my create-a-team team! A few extra points: 1) I beat Tottenham 3-0 in the first leg 2) I smashed Arsenal in the round prior 3) 69 points lolz 4) Not lost a game all season so far!pic.twitter.com/CjLZ3z9Epv

The location of the cathedral, and thus New Sarum, was decided by firing an arrow from atop Old Sarum. It then hit a deer which continued to run a bit, and where it died, the cathedral was built.

I mean, this is almost certainly a legend, but it's a cool one, and also conveniently accounts for the fact the cathedral is nearly 2 miles away from Old Sarum and nobody could shoot an arrow that far.

The Welsh name for Salisbury is Caersallog. The Roman, Sorviodunum. Middle English, Sarisberie. It's twinned with Saintes in France and Xanten in Germany. It's sister cities with the Salisburys of Maryland and North Carolina.
