this sentiment is good, but i don't agree with your process. as an isolated event in my scene, we reduced entry fee to $2 to cater to the majority of players. top players stopped showing up because the pot is too small. attendance =/= incentive to attend

Perhaps make the tournament also have cool side events that are a little more casual outside of doubles/singles? Idk something more fun than high stress bracket all the time, at least something to help wind down.

I was actually thinking bout this at SnS earlier this year and how the prospect of Swiss pools could (if done well) give the most bang for your buck when it comes to the average player as double elim means at least 50% of entrants pay to play, at most, three sets in bracket.

I just cant wrap my head around swish for smash. I think round Robin pools if fine, but swiss baffles me.

This is why I think redemption brackets or side events are almost must haves for larger brackets. Rolling up to play two sets and friendlies for 10 bucks sucks I also always make a point to try and talk to people I dont recognize at events. Reminds you they arent just fodder
