Beowulf: Abridged Beyond the Point of Usefulness Prologue Say, the Spear-Danes? Super good Danes. And Scyld Scefing? Super awesome orphan. Grabbed goods from others, gave them to friends. A good boy, Beow, was born to him.

"The first real work of the Gospels on a fresh reader is, and ought to be, to raise very acutely the question, 'Who or What is this?' For there is a good deal in the character which, unless He really is what He says He is, is not lovable or even tolerable." -- C. S. Lewis

Look, all I want is a TTRPG whose combat actually feels like this scene.

Tragically did not have opportunity to talk about the implications of one player accidentally making his blood sapient.

Attempted to summarize my Blades in the Dark game, and realized it had gotten weird at the point where I was discussing how the players' dream-island was infested by a deer/lighthouse/possibly the moon.

I've played a fair number of Paradox games, but Hearts of Iron 4 may be the Paradoxiest.

This does seem like the fundamental problem of any mass-scale debt forgiveness: it necessarily disadvantages everyone who sacrificed in any other area in order to be loan-free - "I didn't go to college, because I knew I couldn't afford it" worst of all.

That's Christ - the descendant of Abraham, the one through whom that blessing eventually comes - reflecting on his plan to make Abraham a nation (including Christ himself) in order to bless all nations (via Christ himself). Something in that gives me the shivers. (5/5)

But the more so because of God's internal commentary earlier: "Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him." (4/5)

Terrifying first because of the way the passage ends, in a Trinitarian judgment - the Lord (plausibly, the one we just saw on earth) rains fire "from the Lord out of the heavens." That's maybe not the aspect of the Son we're most inclined to remember. (3/5)

Christ later says of Abraham that "He saw my day and was glad." There's a fairly persuasive argument that this passage is when that happens: that God here is the preincarnate Christ. If that's accurate, there's a certain amount of terror in the passage's implications. (2/5)

Was reading Genesis 18 the other day - the bit after the Lord shows up in person to Abraham to give the prophecy of Isaac, and just before he pronounces condemnation of Sodom and Gomorrah. (1/5)

Monopoly, but as soon as anybody at the table lands in jail, you flip the board over to reveal the group’s crew sheet, surprise, we’re playing Blades in the Dark now and our first mission is to rescue our friend from prison! What’s our approach?
