Contemplating making some demos for our book Cognition & Intractability () and playing with ideas. Will share some in this thread. Feedback & requests welcome! 1/n

Also, 'ideological diversity' is a perversion of the concept and its mission. That conservative white men, whose views have been privileged since forever and whose ideas are infused throughout social science theory, could feel that their perspective is not represented is absurd

  3. Btw, the book is the result of an amazing collaboration I have had for many years, with my co-authors & Todd Wareham. Give Mark and Johan a follow if you weren't following them yet.

  4. What better feedback to receive the day before I start teaching this year's version of my MSc course; this time using the published version of our book 🙂

Really appreciate being included in this list AND I want STEM faculty to look through the last 25 people — rising stars — and see if someone is a fit for a faculty hire in your department ✊🏽 Hire !!!

I didn't collect any data for my Ph.D. In Psychology. I think it's really weird — but common! — to assume that modellers like me don't exist in the same field as you all, but we do! 😅

Hey , what is this? Are you and your professors still stuck in the 1800s? This is simply unacceptable in 2020. Please take the proper action immediately.

Wow, "Music Cognition and the Origins of Musicality " *and* logic! Were your ears burning, ? and I were waxing lyrical about cool researchers in the Netherlands over lunch today. Here's my music/maths thing, (starts ~35 min in)

A shoutout to 's book (). I only read the first chapter and already it's the book I wish I had to read when I started working in cognitive science. I wish more read it. I am likely to make the first chapter required reading for my lab.

"Its invariants are and will be of the kinds that are appropriate to adaptive systems. Its success must be measured not by how closely it resembles physics but by how well it describes and explains human behavior."

"In establishing aspirations for psychology it is useful to keep all of these models of science in mind. Psychology does not much resemble classical mechanics, nor should it aim to do so. Its laws are, and will be, limited in range and generality and will be mainly qualitative."

(Honestly, I think even modellers often don't know exactly which parts of their implementations are core theoretical commitments & which ones not. Again, speaking for myself: sometimes I discover commitments I made without realizing, that turn out core or turn out irrelevant) 17/

(But finding out whether or not the irrelevant ones do not matter can be a core theoretical exercise. That way we can discover how some of our model properties may be invariant. Such model invariants may have particular explanatory and predictive power.) 18/n
