      1. Abstention in the #GreekElections is always artificially inflated by the fact that the voter lists are not up to date.

    3. Theodora Oikonomides ‏@IrateGreek 21 Sep 2015

      2. Specifically, the number of registered voters (9,9m) is the same as resident citizens (9,9m) which includes children. #GreekElections

      3. This is due to the fact that dead voters are not removed from the lists and that diaspora/émigrés are included. #GreekElections

      4. The abstention rate in yesterday's elections is therefore NOT 43.5% if we are to consider the real voter population. #GreekElections

      5. What must be looked at is the variation in abstention from one #GreekElections to the next and absolute numbers for participation.

          7. These 780K voters who abstained are "real" voters who participated in the previous #GreekElections, not ppl who exist only on paper.

        2. Theodora Oikonomides ‏@IrateGreek 21 Sep 2015

          8. This means that voters who participated in the Jan #GreekElections and abstained yesterday are the 3rd largest political group in Greece.

          9. All parties that entered parliament in yesterday's #GreekElections lost voters, except the Centrist Union and PASOK.

        4. Theodora Oikonomides ‏@IrateGreek 21 Sep 2015

          10. In PASOK's case, the gain in voters is artificial in the sense that they ran as a coalition with Dimar. #GreekElections

          11. Interesting also to note that PASOK+Dimar+Kidiso in Jan = 470K votes, whereas PASOK+Dimar yesterday = 340K. #GreekElections

          14. Very likely that what enabled smaller parties (Centrists, ANEL & Potami) to reach 3% & enter parl't is abstention. #GreekElections
