Exciting updates in the world of neurodegenerative disease in football. Dementia in football could be listed as an industrial disease, formally recognising the condition as a work accident. have worked tirelessly for this. My comments below:

The Ian Paterson case: a horrifying situation where prominent doctors are allowed to get away with dangerous practices for years, unchallenged. Legally, it also showed an abuse of corporations, including insurers, seeking to wash their hands from liability. The poor victims

Can’t stop thinking about this heartbreaking loss of life. Footballer Jordan Sinnott died after being assaulted and suffering a head injury which fractured his skull. It’s clear from the tributes he was unbelievably special. Condolences to his friends, family and teammates

Pathological fatigue is one of the most common consequences of a brain injury, but it can also be the most difficult to manage. Read my blog here: .

Just about to start the lecture on for MSc Sports Medicine. Think I could probably just stop after the first 2 slides as these really are the take home message.

Totally agree . We know footballers are at higher risk of neurodegenerative disease, we don’t need to wait any longer to take steps to minimise repeated head trauma. Delaying this further is at the expense of gambling with people’s health

Well done to the SFA for taking pragmatic steps to safeguarding children, the most vulnerable to injuries, from known risks. The research linking neurodegenerative disease to football cannot be ignored any longer. Risks will always remain, but more can be done to minimise them

Wow, this is horrifying. Concussion in sport needs to be taken seriously by teams, spectators and athletes. It can leave athletes with permanent brain damage, long after they’re off the field

I’m interested to see what the Aaron Hernandez Netflix documentary says about the impact of CTE on his behaviour, understanding and legal liability for his crimes. Following his death, he was noted to have significant brain damage
