Here's our mechanical . The rotating saddle demonstrates (close enough) what the electric field the ion sees when we trap it. By carefully selecting the rotation speed, you can successfully trap an ion. Too fast (see end) or too slow and the ion will be kicked out.

Did you know that exactly one week ago an reached a major milestone? Congratulations to Zak for successfully defending his PhD thesis last Friday! It's been grand to work next to you all these years Don't you all worry. Dr Zak will still delight us with his tweets

More quantum computing with trapped ions at from Oxford with Amy Hughes presenting the group's mixed species setup! Entangling gates with mixed species are great at combining the best of two worlds! 43Ca+ for qubit & 88Sr+ for photonic coupling ! F~99.8(2)% – mjesto: CERN

This morning talks at started with Marius Weber from the Oxford ion trapping group They are also progressively moving towards laser-free quantum gates to avoid photon scattering and be more scalable! Oxford is also going cryo (~20 K). Welcome to the land of troubles – mjesto: CERN
