Speedy and necessary scientific publishing - fantastic that the team in Wuhan can get this into the public domain so quickly. Epidemiological and clinical characteristics of 99 cases of 2019 novel coronavirus pneumonia in Wuhan, China: a descriptive study

Why do we try to understand the workings of the brain? This is worth a watch - if only to lament the lack of mental health support for Amy. BBC News - 'If I don't see two magpies, I get panic attacks'

Today I will be teaching my undergrad course "How to build a brain from scratch" for the 2nd year running. I've put the materials online - include a document with all lecture slides and notes, which is about as long as a decent novel. Enjoy!

So in the spirit of maximal inclusion, we have decided to shorten the invited speakers' talks to 35 minutes, so that we can include 23 fifteen minute short talks from the abstracts! So make your case in your submission for presenting your work from the podium!

This looks pretty interesting Neurons in Visual Cortex are Driven by Feedback Projections when their Feedforward Sensory Input is Missing

This looks interesting although as a first (superficial) observation I wouldn't describe P10 as "early postnatal"; for S1BF this is post-critical period plasticity. Then again perhaps my lab would be in favour of this readjustment - sure they'd prefer to patch P10 vs P1.

Indeed! Just in last months, so many papers on prefrontal L2/3 PYR in this context. First that come to mind: I wonder what makes L2/3 particularly sensitive to insults.🤔 Haven’t found much on the topic..

And there's complimentary story on the Pcdhs and cortical interneuron by Arturo Alvarez-Buylla and his team, including heroic work by his student Walter Mancia , with an elegant series of transplantations to show Pcdh effects at IN population level.

After the whole Scanziani/Sur/Dan event where the all published different findings regarding what interneurons do in V1, did we ever get to a solid conclusion? [Yes, I know there were follow up letters, but they're still kinda disagreeing]

Very interesting! Microelectrode recordings are critical for such a fine scale analysis.
