is it an Mac with an soldered hard drive? If so I think they might completely wipe the Mac if it’s an logic board problem
How would I know if it has a soldered hard drive? They aren’t going to completely wipe anything, I guarantee that. It’s not an issue with the logic board either. It’s a partially installed/corrupted OS.

if you have thunderbolt cables and access to other macs you can mount it as a drive, i believe that’s what he meant, there’s many ways to get data recovered even if the system cannot boot
