My husband is circumcised, but he was on board with us not doing the same to our son. Even moreso after I showed him how the procedure was done, and after he heard the screams. It's something you don't forget easily.

Well done for speaking out, the truth cannot hide forever, American medicine is infected with group think, confirmation bias and willful ignorance when it comes to infant male circumcision and the anatomy and function of the male foreskin

😢So many horrible cases of botched circumcisions & ignorant doctors hurting boys during checkups just brushed aside. it needs to stop. Check out American Circumcision doc on netflix. Hard to watch at some points but glad it's getting the info out there

Thanks for this deep dive into a complex topic. After following it through and thinking about it, your logic is crystal clear. Super helpful.

I have an issue with medically unnecessary surgery on those unable to give informed consent. I don't think that's an unreasonable position.

I would point out that I am against all forms of childhood genital mutilation, male or female.

While orthodox practices can be extreme, we also shouldn't focus on them as the sole causes of harm. Any unnecessary genital surgery is harmful. Cultural US circumcision can involve more tissue being taken than in the brit milah. Removal of any healthy genital tissue is damage.

Yes Marianne, she blocked me too. That seems to be this "Doctor's" modus operandi when challenged. The total ignorance of American Physicians regarding this organ astounds me. The denial of the damage caused by the Orthodox Brit Periah leaves me speechless.

Oh no *back of hand to forehead* I think she's blocked me. It's so concerning that *medics* out there can't get past their personal biases to look critically at something like unnecessary surgery on infants. Having had a surgeon scream in my face about it once... disturbing.

is confusing this for campaigning for Senate. Starting pissing matches with other docs about circumcision. I wanted to like her. But she can't stop throwing sand and talk about things that matter. Please step up if you could run. We need you.

Commentary about both male and female circumcision with a fair amount of nuance that I wasn't aware of. Importantly, this conversation includes candidate CW graphic surgery

It's worrying that the narrative in the mainstream and in work training (I work in the social services) is so strongly opposed to FGM but not male c, despite the same being true for both. I could never do it to any future child of mine knowing what I know now. Thank you both.

The United States is an outlier when it comes to how widespread the practice is, how strongly the medical community supports it, but even AAP stops short of recommending routine circumcisions for all male newborns

Many people don't think there are negative consequences. However it strains reality to think that there are no negative consequences to an entirely unnecessary surgery on a child's genitals. Barring actual medical need, an intact body is a human right.

I have zero issues with circumcision if an ADULT wishes to do it for themselves for whatever reason. My issue here is having it be done on a child when they have zero ability to consent to such a thing being done to them. A person should have the right to choose.

Absolutely. Something has to change. I should probably add at this point so more people can see the shit going on here. This barbaric practice has gone on far too long.

Healthcare worker here. You absolutely have a case, and a rather serious one (for that clinic). You as the child's parent and legal guardian did not give your consent to the procedure nor were you asked for it. I can't express how big of a no-no that is. Sue them. Sue them big.
