I reject the idea that we need to break people into groups of marginalized and non-marginalized people. Either everyone's ok to joke about or nobody is. Freedom of speech is absolute the moment it becomes otherwise is the first step on the road to slavery.

You are free to say whatever you like. You are not free from the consequence of that speech. Your rejection of the notion of marginalization, and then the invocation of slavery a sentence later is some spectacular logical acrobatics.

There is no legalized slavery in the West, everyone who was held as a slave in the West is dead as is everyone who legally owned a slave. Historical slavery has no bearing on this debate. If you cannot speak or joke for fear of "consequences" you are not free.
