    Back from my visit to Atiu. Last week in the Cook Islands. Striving to make the most of the time left. Snorkeled for 3 solid hours to "earn" my dinner & dessert at Vaima-on-the-Beach. The sticky toffee pudding was good. The sunset was better.

    The dense canopy and dim light made it hard to get good photos. Wish I had a fast long lens. This is, sadly, the best shot I got of the stunningly beautiful Rimitara Lorikeet. A small population of 27 birds was brought here to hedge against extinction. They now number ~400.

    Had a fun day exploring Atiu's jungle roads with my aunt and Birdman George from the back of his truck. We went into the jungle at select points to try and call out some of the rare bird species found here. George's calls are amazing and many answered back and flew within sight.

    Might go to church at Zion Tapu (Holy Zion) in the morning. It is the 2nd oldest church in the Cooks dating to ~1823. The sabbath is rigorously observed on most of the outer islands and some of the populace are 7th Day Adventists, so most things are shut down on weekends.

    Made it to Atiu and spent a fairly rainy afternoon walking a few of its 26 small sheltered beaches and walking through the village in the center of the island. Tomorrow we are taking a wildlife tour from Birdman George and will have some Umu food for dinner.

    About to head to Atiu. Aitutaki is the only other air strip besides the international airport in Rarotonga which is sealed. The other small island runways are gravel, so we are taking the smaller Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante.

    Catching a flight to the island of Atiu in the morning. Atiu is ringed by jagged fossilized coral. There are a number of secluded beaches, but the reef is close in to shore and the lagoon is very shallow when it doesn't drain completely. Still, going to bring my snorkel gear.

    Some of today's encounters. This ray came gliding around a heap of coral and was content to feed on the bottom for about 10 seconds. Then, it saw me and bolted for the horizon in a sudden and very impressive burst of speed. Easily the fastest I've seen something move on the reef.

    I predict Donald Trump will tweet about this rule change soon. Why? Because it gives him back the 2016 narrative that helped elect him. That he's running against a corrupt party that rigged things, etc., etc. You know the story. Now the DNC is choosing to give him that story.

    Excited for the international release of Uncut Gems on Netflix tomorrow. Can’t wait for “this is how I win” in 50 different languages. Those of you in the US, the only way to see it is big and loud in theaters... won’t be streaming here till the summer.
