good question! Level shifters are based on what we already carry. Still room for optimizations like that prior to production.

you're right about the 5v, we actually use 16245 currently. These were just easy to grab for test placement. Good eye!

What's the max rom size?

no limit with serial memory. Guessing you're curious about parallel ROM which isn't set in stone. Prob 8MByte (64mbit).

I've wanted to make something with triple-port memory and an extra CPU. Maybe you could do it w/ Chipmunk coprocessor by

Yeah that would be within reason. There's also a small ARM on board w/ spi interface with mapper/memory, so 4 port if you want to get fancy.
