you mean e^(-x^2) ? .. yes they could be but that's called a gaussian, not "exponential growth"

Doesn't say exponential growth, just exponential functions. On the right you can see y=2^x.

Hey just because it has a bell shape doesn't mean it's gaussian, it could be 1/cosh which looks locally exponential

1/(cosh(x)^2), derivative of tanh(x). Logistic function (total cases) is a scaled and shifted tanh.
