Is it always π? Is the pole on the right a whole number of wavelengths from the starting point or somewhere in the middle of the last wavelength before being reflected? Shouldn’t that make a difference?

Add another pole at the other end and you'll only see integer multiples of the longest wavelength the string can accommodate.
