What is the X-ray map? How is it supposed to represent regular matter? Is it assuming that BH are uniformly distributed?

You said that X-ray map represents regular matter. From what I know X-ray sources are very rare and specific, i.e. black hole accretion disk. Or is it soft X-ray coming stars' corona?

the x-rays are coming from the collision of hot gas, thus tracing the baryonic matter.
