but just because its derivative is also exponential doesn't mean that its derivative is constant.. i.e. near t=0 the derivative is approximately 0 depending on τ in e^(t/τ), but not until around t=τ you start to see rapid changes
i have no political dog in this fight, but the growth isn't the same at all times (i.e. not constant) and i don't see anything erroneous in the phrasing
