Sorry, just saw what you said. You're right.
After seeing this, I looked up what hyperbolic paraboloids are. Apparently, its "a surface that may be generated by a moving line that is parallel to a fixed plane" - has 2 sets of such "skew lines." So this makes it easy to manufacture as well.
They stack nicely too
I think initially they were made like chips from a disk (slice) of potato. When deep fried, the potato shrinks, thus reducing its area but the circumference/skin can't shrink as much, then the hyperbolic paraboloid appears naturally as an optimal surface with boundary conditions.
