I don't know if you're going to think I'm basic as hell here but if you've a common issue like this ie skipping minus signs, terms, values etc, it really helps to consistently write it in a different colour (if possible) or font/size. It sounds very silly but I promise it works.
It wasn’t a transcription error, it was reading multiple sources with different notations

Ouch. My personal horror stories usually involve restoring SI units in equations with magnetism and spins. Planck constants, Bohr magnetons and factors of 2pi are my bane.
