Suposedly that is Proxima Centauri ejecting a solar superflare. Two years ago there was a study named "The First Naked-Eye Superflare Detected from Proxima Centauri" by Howard Ward. I bet the illustration came from that idea.

Ah I thought the center object was the planet, because star in background. Couldn't see the orbit lines on my phone (turned brightness up now)
