I met a string theorist today so disillusioned with the state of mathematical physics that he decided to teach an HPS course this semester on crises in science—scary, huh. I really think scientists should spend more time reflecting on the foundations and status of their fields.

The foundations of optics are pretty solid. Thank you

I can see how a purely wave model of nature fits all observations, but certainly not the standard model. The standard model can't explain wave-particle duality, how photons interact with electron orbitals, and doesn't provide a QM description of a photon.

The standard model can't satisfactorily explain how light propagates through transparent media or this recent discovery:https://physicsworld.com/a/light-matter-interactions-take-strange-new-turn/ …

Here is a recently developed non-standard model of how light propagates through transparent media. It has tremendous implications for Cosmology:https://www.google.com/amp/s/phys.org/news/2017-06-atomic-mass-photon-momentum-paradox.amp …

You have no clue what the standard model is. Right?
