Physicists must start taking philosophy of science seriously or run the risk of stagnating, argues Sabine Hossenfelder (@skdh).https://iai.tv/articles/why-physics-has-made-no-progress-in-50-years-auid-1292 …

I share many of these sentiments.. As a frustrated particle theory PhD student, I wish we could just take a break from churning out papers on EFTs for dark matter and just collect our thoughts for a second

“...experiments in the foundations of physics past the 1970s have only confirmed the already existing theories. None found evidence of anything beyond what we already know.” This is just wrong. We have discovered a multitude of new phenomena that lie outside of the SM...

The observation of neutrino masses, the accelerated expansion of the universe, and the “dark matter” problem are all fundamental issues that are trying to be solved. And these are observations that don’t simply demonstrate what we “already know,” but that we need better models

Right, but Sabine's point is the way we're going about finding those better models is misguided

"They do not think about which hypotheses are promising". It's straw man bullshit and bitterness maintaining the "outsider" brand. I am sorry but this hurts us all and is not helpful.

So: physicists are sheep, we never think for ourselves about what we do and why. Really??? The only vaguely constructive suggestion is to talk to philosophers. What did I miss?

You don't think a current dogma exists? it's not that we can't think but that we're censured for thinking otherwise

i'm not saying that continuing in this way is bound to be fruitless .. i disagree with the certainty with which she makes these assertions
