Some people visit our posts to "show off" a piece of knowledge they have and to tell us we're wrong. They do this to make themselves look like *they* are the expert, but are often in a completely different field. Their insecurities aren't well masked by their display of arrogance

Yes!! And I never quite understand how they feel they benefit from doing this, but I think you said it best: it's their insecurities. So they do this to make themselves feel better, while probably having the opposite effect in the end. It's ridiculous!

Honestly I've been working my way up to say that for 12months. Been really analyzing why they feel the need to do it... turns out it's the same damn thing as bullying. There's a lite version where people reply with absurdly pedantic things, but it's too ambigious to call out ;-)
