It’s not faked. To convince yourself try @digitaldereks suggestion: Pause the gif and cover up the regions that aren’t the squares, and you’ll see that they are the same color.

In design school we had a semester dedicated to such visual tricks! For example selecting the right colors for billboards is the difference between blending in on a cloudy day or a clear sky! It's also fun to think about what they would look like in other planet's atmospheres...

No matter how hard i try cant see it being the same color. Wondering what does this mean? Is our brain programmed to pick up contrasts more than colors ?

Color itself is a huge lie. Our brains wrap red and purple together because of our relative perception model. Yet those wavelengths are nothing alike.pic.twitter.com/P0kUKqydH7
